Singapore Cancer Society
(1970s)

Opened by the second president, Dr Benjamin Sheares and is currently the largest cancer advocacy and support organisation in Singapore.

Bowling Alley
(1970s - 1980s)

Known as Star Bowl, the 36-lane bowling alley was popular in the 1970s-1981 amongst youths.

Dining Restaurant
(1970s - 1980s)

Situated right next to the bowling alley and served as a popular eatery for people who came to bowl.

Specialised Clinics
(1970s - 1980s)

Located at level 4 of Peace Centre. Since then, many clinics has closed down or moved.

Computer Schools
(1990s)

Informatics schools used to carry ads in the newspapers back in the days, such as Informatics, Comsetrac, BMC which were located at level 3.

Coffee House Restaurant
(1980s - 1990s)

Opened in 1975, Peace Centre Coffeehouse Restaurant specialised in Hong Kong Mee, western food and bird's nest with quail eggs on the second floor of Peace Centre.

Emms Boutique
(1970s)

Established in 1975, Emms Boutique has been in the fashion industry for 47 years, specialising in women office wear.

Metro
(1970s)

A small-sized metro was introduced in the late 70s, which was then closed down soon after.

Cassette Shop (Sanyo)

(1970s)

A Cassette Shop selling Sanyo products used to play music of different languages and genres that resonated throughout the building in the early 70s. Not to miss out, a jukebox that plays selected songs with a single 10 cent coin!

Music Shop

(1970s)

Multiple shops that provide a wide collection of musical instruments and accessories, such as Renner Piano Co.

Watch Shop

(1970s)

Sunn Fatt Watch Dealer (the "Entity") is a Sole watch Proprietor for 48 years, incorporated in 1974.

Banks

(1970s - 1980s)

Level One was flooded with multiple banks such as Chartered bank and many more.

NTUC WELCOME Supermarket Headquarters & Store

(1980s)

NTUC FairPrice, the largest supermarket chain in Singapore was initially named “NTUC WELCOME Supermarket”, where one of the headquarters & store was located in Peace Center. 

Kacang Puteh Store

(1970s)

A Kacang Puteh cart offers around 20 types of flavoured nuts and murukku (Indian fried rice flour crisps), charging about $1.30 to $2 a portion at the entrance of Peace Center.

FORMER TIGER

BALM BUILDING

1940s to 1970/80s

A 4-storey building with a tiger at the top of the building was the Tiger Balm Building which housed the Eu Aun Tong Medical Hall. This building was then used by Chung Khiaw Bank, set up by Haw Par brothers, giving us Tiger Balm, Haw Par Corporation and the Haw Par Villa.

Various schools were situated around Selegie Road. These include St. Margrets Girls School, Methodist Girls School, Nan Hwa Girls School,

St. Joseph Institution, Stamford Girls School,

St. Anthony Convent & Selegie Primary School.

MIDDLE ROAD

HOSPITAL

1945-1988

Middle Road Hospital was located next to the David Elias building. The hospital was known for treating venereal diseases (currently referred as STDs/STIs). During World War II, it served as a first aid post for civilian casualties when it was still called Doh Jin Hospital.

BANKS

Peace Centre Area is clustered with multiple banks, ranging from Chung Kiaw bank, OCBC, OUB, POSB, ICB, Maybank and many more. *Chung Kiaw bank (mainly retail banking) owned by the haw par brothers .

1970s-1990s

Eu Villa

1915

A castle-like mansion, Eu Villa was owned by the Eu Tong Sen family on Mount Sophia. It cost approximately $1 million.
